Finally: Ejikeme Mmesoma caves, admit scoring 249 in her UTME

Ejikeme Mmesoma, the student who allegedly forged her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, has finally confessed to scoring 249. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) accused Mmesoma of forging her result which she blatantly denied initially, saying that she scored 362 out of a total mark of 400.

The spokesman for JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said that their records indicated that Mmesoma had sent several messages to the board’s automated telecom system, which includes results showing an aggregate of 362. Due to this, JAMB imposed a 3-year ban on the Mmesoma.

During an interview with her father on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mmesoma asserted that she should not be held responsible for the controversy. She said, “It’s not my fault that I printed my result like that and they said that I forged my result. It’s not my fault. So, them banning it is not fair.” She also claimed to have sent an SMS to JAMB through their support system but received no response. Mmesoma pointed out that if JAMB checked their support system, they would find evidence of her message.

However, contrary to Mmesoma’s claims, Benjamin dismissed the result she presented as obsolete. He assured Nigerians that JAMB’s system had not been tampered with or compromised, and that Mmesoma had falsified a copy of another candidate’s result slip. The candidate in question was named ‘Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle’ and had sat for the UTME in 2021, scoring 138.
Benjamin also pointed out that Mmesoma accidentally mentioned the rightful owner of the result she was parading when she mentioned the QR code on the result slip, which belonged to the actual owner.

Regarding a video released by Mmesoma in an attempt to defend herself, Benjamin commented, “If you look at her posture—look at the video very well—if you look at the video critically, you will see that somebody is coaching her on what to say. Just sit down and look at the video she posted.”
