Real Madrid defeated Real Soceidad 1-0 away from home in la liga action on friday night to open up a 14 point lead over Barcelona who play Valencia on monday night.
Carlo Ancelotti made nine changes to the team who defeated Barcelona at the weekend. Kepa Arrizabalaga started in goal replacing Andry Lunin while Fran Garcia and Dani Carvajal started as the full back while Nacho Fernandes paired with Eder Militao at centre back. In midfield in came Dani Ceballos and Arda Guler to form a four man midfield with Luka Modric and Aurenlin Tchouameni, while Joselu and Brahim Diaz were the two men up top. Vinicious Junior and Jude Bellingham dropped to the bench as also Antonio Rudiger, Lucas Vasques, Federico Valverde Toni Kross and Eduardo Camavinga while Rodrigo Goes misses out due to illness.
The game was a cagey affair as both teams were cautious and not committing too many players forward. The home side looked the most likely to score with former Real Madrid man Takefusa Kubo the most dangerous with his direct play and dribbling causing problems for Fran Garcia at left back.
But it was Madrid who took the lead as Tchouameni diagonal pass found Carvajal with lots of space on the right and his first time cross was met by Arda Guler at the far post to score his second la liga goal of the campaign after scoring off the bench against Celta Vigo but finding game time hard to come by.
It was one nill to the away side at the break and despite Real Sociedad attempt in the second half with wave after wave of attack Ancelotti brought in Vini Jnr and Eduardo Camavinga to gain control over the midfield and see of the match.
Camavinga almost added a second after a brilliant pass from the impressive Tchouameni inside the box but his near post shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper Remiro before Joselu was flagged offside.
That proved the last real action as the referee blew for full time after 95 minutes and Real Madrid go 14 points clear at the top and only need four more points to win a record 34th league title come end of the season.
What does this victory means Real Madrid?
With this win Real Madrid open up a 14points lead over Barcelona in second and could go on to win la liga as early as next week if Barcelona fails to beat Valencia this weekend and Madrid defeats Cadiz next week. Barcelona meanwhile are away to Girona next week.
