Ismael Sambari fires Morocco into round of 16

Ismael Saibari scored the winning penalty kick for Morocco as they beat Netherlands 3-2 on penalties after the regular period ended 1-1 at the 2026 World Cup.

Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock after 71 minutes of play without a goal, with the forward powering home from a close range before Issa Diop scored a late-minute equaliser at the death to send the game into an extra-time.

After 120 minutes of action, the regular time ended without a winner and Sambari scored a decisive penalty kick to ensure Morocco become the first African side to nick a place in the next round of the tournament.

Morocco reached the semifinal of the last edition, finishing fourth after losing the third place match to Croatia.
The Atlas Lions will now face Canada in the next round of the global competition on July 4.

Canada stop South Africa in round of 32

Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 in the round of 32 which ended their campaigns in the 2026 World Cup.

Stephen Eustaquio scored the only goal of the game at the death to ensure the progress of the Canadians in the tournament.
