Teboho Mokoena scored an important goal for South Africa to ensure a draw against Czech Republic in the Group A of the 2026 World Cup.
After collapsing to co-host country, Mexico, following a 2-0 defeat, Bafana Bafana braced up in the second game by securing a crucial point to increase their chances of nicking a place in the next round of the tournament.
Czechia started the game brighter by dominating proceedings and deservely took the lead in the sixth minute through Michal Sadilek.
Efforts from South Africa to equalise before the half-time break proved abotive, the second-half, however, took a new turn as South Africa got a penalty and Mokoena calmly struck to earn his side a point.
South Africa will play South Korea in their next group game on June 26.
Ghana pip Panama
Ghana opened their campaign at the mundial with a 1-0 victory over Panama, following a tap-in effort from Caleb Yirenkyi on Wednesday.
The West African side failed to trouble Panama goalkeeper, Orlando Mosquera in the first-half of the match, Panama had several chances but could not convert any.
Yirenkyi scored the only goal of the game, striking from a close range which secured Ghana three vital points. The Black Stars will face England in their next game on June 23 before playing Croatia in their last group game on June 27.
