A baffling protest was recently organized by a group of female law students from the university of Calabar, accusing Prof. Cyril Ndifon, Dean of the Faculty of law, of sexually harassing them.
The protest in which the students marched on campus with signs expressing their concerns and dissatisfaction was led by the President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), UNICAL branch, Comrade Benedict Otu.
However, Prof. Ndifon denied all allegations suggesting that the claims were fabricated by individuals within the faculty who wanted his downfall. He asserted that the accusations were false and intended to damage his reputation.
Prof. Ndifon asserted that the placards used in the protest appeared to have been written by one person, raising questions about the veracity of the claims.
He also pointed out that the protest coincided with a meeting he was scheduled to have with the Vice Chancellor, during which important faculty issues were to be discussed. According to him, the timing of the protest seemed suspicious and indicated possible insider involvement.
Prof Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor, assured the students that the concerns raised would be addressed appropriately.
