AFCON: Nigeria 2-0 Cameroon -Ademola Lookman’s brace hands Super Eagles quarter-final spot

The Super Eagles nicked a place in the last eight of the tournament after defeating the Indomitable Lions.
Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations to qualify for the Quarter-final of the tournament at Stade Felix Houphouet- Boigny on Saturday.
Ademola Lookman got the two goals of the match, scoring in both halves to help the Super Eagles secure their third victory in the tournament.
The Super Eagles started the tournament by playing out a 1-1 draw against Equitoria Guinea, then secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast before recording a slim win over Guinea Bissau to clinch a spot in the Round of 16 of the tournament.
Coach Jose Peseiro named a strong team against the Indomitable Lions, starting Alex Iwobi, William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, Ola Aina, Moses Simon, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Zaidu Sanusi and Stanley Nwabali.
On the othe hand, former international, who is now the coach of Cameroon, Rigobert Song kicked off his campaign in the tournament by securing a 1-1 draw against Guinea, suffered a 3-1 defeat against Senegal and bounced back to clinch a 3-2 victory over Gambia in the group stage of the tournament.
Song preferred Fabrice Ondoa in goal, Oumar Gonzalez, Christopher Wooh and Jean-Charles Castelletto in defence, Andre-Frank Anguissa anchored the midfield while Karl Kolo Ekambi and Frank Magri also featured in the game.
Nigeria started the match on a good note and came close to scoring as early as the ninth minute when Semi Ajayi got the ball into the net but his effort was ruled out for offside. Not relenting, the Super Eagles continued to push for an opening goal and finally got it in the 36th minute through Lookman, the forward found the back of the net after getting an assist from Osimhen and came close to getting a brace but he narrowly missed the target in the 55th minute.
Song brought on Vincent Aboubakar for Gonzalez in the 78th minute of the game in his quest to avoid a defeat in the encounter but Nigeria continued to push for more goals and got their second in the encounter through Lookman in the 90th minute of the game.
Nigeria has now won four of their previous seven meetings with Cameroon.

  1. I’m not sure exactly why but this web site is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this issue or is it a issue on my end? I’ll check back later and see if the problem still exists.
