AFCON: Senegal and Morocco out, South Africa joins Nigeria in quarterfinals

The Teranga Lions and the Atlas have ended their campaign while the Bafana Bafana has advanced into their next stage of tournament.
Senegal lost 4-5 on penalties to Ivory Coast in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations at Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro on Tuesday.
The regular period ended 1-1 with goals from Habibou Diallo and Franck Kessie, during the penalties, Emerse Fae’s men were more clinical in front of goal to seal a place in the next round of the tournament. Fae was handed the responsibility to lead the team after Jean-Louis Gasset was sacked due to Ivory Coast’s struggle at the found stage. The team narrowly secured a place in the Round of 16.


On the other hand, Morocco suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Africa which obviously ended their campaign in the competition. Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena scored the goals in the game. The result ensured that Hugo Broos’ men join Nigeria, who defeated Cameroon, in the quarterfinals and will face Cape Verde on Saturday.
