Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has refused to blame the referee for the loss against Everton in a Premier League game which condemn Liverpool to their first loss at Goodinson Park since 2010.
The Liverpool captain was booked in the first half for dissent after he voiced his frustration after the referee adjudged Luis Diaz to have given away a foul.
The Liverpool captain feels the contact was soft and Everton players are making most of the minimal contacts to go down and win free kicks.
After the match Virgil van Dijk thinks Liverpool can learn and move forward and would rather not blame the match officials.
Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports,”If you play like this overall in the game and not win any challenges and give the referee an opportunity to give a free-kick away then we have no chance to win the title.
“Very disappointed in so many ways. Everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their own performance and think if they gave everything.
“It is a tough one and obviously we have to do better against a side near the relegation [positions] it is time to focus.
“If you play like today we have no chance to consider ourselves in the title race.”
What does the loss means to Liverpool?
The loss leaves Liverpool in second place with three points behind leaders Arsenal, who had earlier defeated their London rivals Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirate on Tuesday night.
Liverpool could slip to third if Manchester City win their two games in hand at the Amex tomorrow against Brighton.
