Manchester City forward Phil Foden has won the Football Writer’s Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award.
The striker defeated teammate Rodrigo and Arsenal star Declan Rice to clinch the coveted trophy following his impressive performances this season. He garnered 42 percent of the vote cast to clinch the victory.
Foden has found the back of the net 16 times in the Premier League this season to help the Citizens to their current second spot on the league table with 79 points from 34 games, one point behind leaders Arsenal.
The forward has expressed his delight after scooping the award and praised his colleagues for helping him to win it while hoping to finish the season with greater achievements.
Foden said: “Being named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year is a huge honour. I’m very, very happy to receive this award but I could not have done it without the help of my team-mates.

Foden will be expected to play a part in Manchester City’s next Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
