The spate of insecurity in some parts of Nigeria is alarming, although the government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making effort to put the situation in check. Notwithstanding, the masses are expecting more from their representatives.
In Benue State, bandits have been operating incessantly, with the most affected part being Yelwata and the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. Many lives have been lost and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed.
Besides, there was another case of insecurity in Borno State, where some bandits, believed to be Boko Haram members unleashed mayhem in some communities, leaving many seriously injured.
Reactions have trailed the insecurity challenges in the country, including from the international community. Pope Leo XIV called for peace in the affected areas and hope that security will be beefed up.
What has President Tinubu done about insecurity in Nigeria?
The president recently visited the areas affected by bandits, so as to get a first hand information and observe the situation on ground. During his visit, he sympathised with the people of Benue State and encouraged the governor, Hyacinth Alia to be bold and ensure there is peace in his state.
Tinubu further directed the security agents to brace up to their duties and arrest the bandits, who have been perpetuating evil in the communities. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede also relocated to Benue in an effort to curb insecurity in the state.
The masses expect more from Tinubu’s government
Although a number of efforts have been made toward ensuring peace in all parts of Nigeria, especially the northern part, notwithstanding, the citizens are still expecting more.
The feud between Fulani herdsmen and farmers needs to be permanently banished. Herdsmen may be given grazing areas and there should be security for farmers.
It is only when these problems are addressed that there will be economic growth and development in the country.
