Ousmane Dembele sets World Cup record for France

Osmane Dembele bagged a hat-trick for France in the opening 32 minutes against Norway to set a World Cup record on Friday.  The Paris Saint-Germain forward found the back of the net in the seventh minute of the game and doubled the lead with a curled effort after Kylian Mbappe shrugged off his marker to set him up.  Dembele then clinched a hat-trick with another impressive curled effort from the edge of the box to become the first player from France to score three goals within 32 minutes at the age of 32 years.  The winger was heavily criticized for failing to score in his side’s opening match against Senegal, where the French team secured three points.  France is currently leading Group I with six points and are currently guaranteed a spot in the knockout stage of the tournament.  Tunisia out of 2026 World Cup Tunisia suffered a 3-1 loss to Netherlands which ended their campaigns at the 2026 World Cup and are without a single point.  The result condemned them to the bottom of Group F table as the Dutch side ended the group stage of the competition as leaders while Japan secured a place in the next stage with five points.

Achraf Hakimi was on the scoresheet to help Morocco secure a crucial 4-2 win over Haiti in their last group game at the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday.  The Paris Saint Germain defender ignited a comeback for his side after going down to a tenth-minute own goal from goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, scoring in the 39th minute.  Morocco were again on the backfoot after conceding in the 43rd minute, however, a late-minute strike before the half-time break from Ismael Saibali ensured a 2-2 draw.  The Atlas Lions continued to push for a goal and deservedly got two after the restart of the game through substitute Soufiane Rahimi and Gessime Yassine.  Morocco now have seven points from three games after previously forcing Brazil to a draw and securing a hard-fought victory over Scotland.  The points ganered have ensured the Moroccans nick a place in the round of 32 of the global tournament, finishing second behind leaders, Brazil.   Japan Oust Tunisia Japan pommelled Tunisia 4-0 at the ongoing 2026 World Cup, thus, outsting them from the tournament.  The African side previously suffered a 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening game and now at the bottom of Group F with no single point.   Tunisia will play Netherlands in their last group game before departing from the tournament on Friday.

World Cup 2026: Egypt, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast shine

Egypt and Cape Verde secured a famous 1-1 draw each against Belgium and Spain while Ivory Coast nicked their first victory against Ecuador at the ongoing World Cup 2026 tournament in Group E and G respectively.  The Pharaohs started the game stronger than the Belgians, as they made many attempts on goal, their efforts paid off in the 19th minute after Emman Ashour unleashed a sublime shot from outside the box into the right-corner of the net to open the scoring.   Coach Rudi Garcia introduced Romelu Lukaku to bolster the team and the Napoli star did not disappoint as he forced Mohammed Hany to turn the ball into his own net in the 66th minute of the match. The goal saved Belgium from an embarrassing defeat and salvaged a point for the team against the seven times African champions.  Cape Verde nick a  favourable draw Cape Verde secured a 0-0 draw against former world champions, Spain in the ongoing World Cup on Monday.  The African team frustrated the efforts of the Spanish side with coach Bubista ensuring that there were at least nine players behind the ball to secure the team’s first point at the 2026 edition of the tournament. The result has placed Cape Verde in a favourable position in their group as each of the teams in Group H has one point. The team popularly as the Blue Sharks will play Saudi Arabia in their next game on June 27.
