Ronaldo smashes World Cup record as Algeria beat Jordan

Cristiano Ronaldo was at his best, smashing a World Cup record, as he became the first player to score in six World Cups when he found the net for Portugal in their 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan on Tuesday.

The highly experienced captain was heavily criticised for failing to score in his side’s opening game against DR Congo, with the Africans forcing them to a 2-2 draw.

Ronaldo scored twice, with the first coming from a close range, against Uzbekistan, as Bruno Fernandes provided a key assist in the game.

The victory has revived Portugal and put them in a pole position to nick a place in the next round of the global tournament, having secured four points from two matches.
