Niger Coup Leader Agrees to Dialogue Amidst Regional Efforts

Niger Republic’s coup leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, has decided to engage in dialogue with ECOWAS under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s guidance.

Tchiani made the decision after meeting with Nigerian Islamic Scholars, led by Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau. Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine confirmed that General Tchiani is ready to engage in a dialogue, he also hoped to the resolution of the sanctions in the coming days.

The Nigeria Intervention Team, which included the prominent Islamic Scholars discussed with the coup leaders in Niger, where all parties endorsed dialogue as a means to address the political crisis.

Sheik Bala Lau, represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ECOWAS, he conveyed their stance for peaceful resolution. Tchiani welcomed the delegation and expressed openness to diplomatic solutions.

The General also lamented that ECOWAS did not consider their perspectives before issuing ultimatums, he defended the coup’s intent, that it was to avert a potential threat affecting both Niger Republic and Nigeria.
