AFCON: What Peseiro wants from Super Eagles

The three-time African champions secured a place in the semifinals, notwithstanding, the manager of the side believes there are more rooms for improvement.
Coach Jose Peseiro has explained that he would want Nigeria national team to create more chances and score more goals.
The Super Eagles qualified for the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after recording a victory over Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament on Friday. Ademola Lookman got the only goal of the game. The victory ensured that the team extended their unbeaten record in the tournament and Peseiro, who took charge of the side some few months before the start of the tournament, has explained that he wants his team to be more clinical in front of goal. Speaking to Cafonline, he said, “The team could have created more chances. We are a quality team. Angola were a very good team but we were out of luck. Once again, we played without conceding, we scored a goal, but I would have liked us to score more. I remain satisfied with the performance of my players so far”.

Meanwhile, Angola coach Pedro Goncalves has lauded the performances of the Super Eagles in AFCON, especially, after his side lost to them on Friday. He believes the team has a strong system in place which was instrumental to their success in the competition so far. He said, “I would like to congratulate the Nigeria team, they are very strong, the coach has put in place a solid system. They deserved their victory.”
Notwithstanding Angola’s defeat to Nigeria, Goncalves revealed his satisfaction with the performance of his side and revealed that his team has surpassed the expectations of their fans. He added, “I think we could have won. We fought for the whole 90 minutes. We felt sorry for ourselves after conceding the goal. We had opportunities to score but we didn’t put them in. I have the feeling of having succeeded in my mission with the Angolan national team. I am aware of the work I have accomplished with my team, no one expected Angola in the quarter-finals.”
