Babangida: SWAN sympathizes with ex-Ajax star over brother’s death

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has sent condolence greetings to former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida on the loss of his brother Ibrahim Babangida.

Ibrahim was a former player for a Nigerian age-grade team and played for Volendam while his brother, Tijani was one of the Dream Team stars that won an Olympic gold medal at the Atalanta 1996 for Nigeria.

The Nigeria former stars were involved in a road accident which claimed the life of Ibrahim.

Tijani was a menace against his opponents during his playing days and featured for Dutch side Ajax, where he displayed dazzling performances on the flanks.

President of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement, encouraged members of the family of the deceased and promised that the association will stand with them.

Benjamin said: “Tijani Babaginda has always been a jolly good fellow. I remember his recent outing as chairman of a grassroots football competition in Kaduna. I’m still yet to come to terms with the accident which claimed the life of his brother Ibrahim who is also lively and enterprising.

“I urge Tijani and other family members to take heart. As Sports Journalists in Nigeria, we will continue to stand with you and your family at this time and always.

“It is our utmost prayer that you, your wife and any other affected by the incident be healed and recover as quickly as possible,”
