Olympic gold medalist, Efe Ajagba has advised young boxers to be careful not to sign wrong contracts, so that they will not mar their careers.
Ajagba gave the advice during a boxing event. He explained how he was lured to sign a wrong deal and it took him some time before he jettison the contract.
He urged young boxers to exercise patience and continue to strive until they have accomplished their aims.
“I once signed a wrong contract as an inexperienced boxer and it was later that I got the courage to switch it,” Ajagba said. “No matter what happens though, delay cannot stop you if you have that passion inside of you.”
Buttressing the comments of Ajagba, Ozoamaka Orakwe, a lawyer charged young boxers to be educated so that they can fully comprehend the contracts they sign and be able nick good deals.
“The most important is the business of boxing. Education is not a scam and our boxers and other sportsmen in Nigeria need to also get education which will help to protect them when it comes to contracts and self development,” Orakwe said. “Passion alone will not pay your bills.”
Ajagba represented Nigeria at a number of competitions, including the All African Games and the Commonwealth Games, where he won laurels.
