Tinubu Moves to Tackle Hardship in Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to alleviate hardship in Nigeria, dispatched five trucks of rice to every state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum revealed that the removal of the fuel subsidy birthed the initiative, during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting which held on 17th of August 2023. Five trucks of rice was approved for each State as a palliative measure under Tinubu’s government.

In order to further ameliorate the impact of rising living costs, a grant of N5 billion to each of the 36 states was authorized by Tinubu-led administration for the procurement of grains like a hundred thousand bags of rice and beans, among other essentials.

President Tinubu also disclosed sectors he intends to focus on to alleviate poverty after appointing portfolios to ministerial appointees in 2023.

In response to political instability in the Niger Republic, the NEC directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide food items to states bordering that nation. This situation has resulted in an influx of refugees and is affecting the equitable distribution of palliatives.

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra state indicated that the review of the social register was underway, while Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State noted that only N2 billion of the approved N5 billion had been disbursed to states thus far.
