UNICAL Dean Suspended Over Harassment Allegations

On August 17, 2023, the University of Calabar took a bold step by suspending a prominent dean within the institution’s faculty, Cyril Ndifon. The suspension was prompted by grave allegations of sexual harassment, which had been a source 9f concern among both the student body and the academic community.

The situation magnified to the such an extent that the esteemed president of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) at UNICAL, Benedict Otu, led a protest on the campus, with a group of females. Their collective outcry demanded justice and immediate removal of Cyril Ndifon from his position.

The university senate immediately initiated a thorough investigation. The aim of the investigation was to ensure fairness and objectivity, find out the truth behind the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action.

The university authorities decided to suspend Cyril Ndifon pending the conclusion of the report. The official statement was signed by Registrar Gabriel Egbe.

While the measure was deemed necessary to protect the integrity of the process and prevent any potential interference, the university administration required Ndifon to submit any of the university property in his possession. He was also instructed to refrain from setting foot on the school premises until officially summoned by the investigative panel.

This precautionary measure was taken to uphold the sanctity of the ongoing investigation and to create a secure environment for all parties involved.
