Fubura begins demolition of Rivers State House of Assembly [video]

The demolition of the State House of Assembly on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, for reconstruction has commenced. It was reported that the project was being carried out by the Rivers State Government under Governor Siminalayi Fubara. While the demolition began on Wednesday, December 12, around 6am, it should be noted that the project came weeks after the dignified chambers of the state assembly were burned down unrecognized political thugs. It should be noted that the legislative arm of the state has been embroiled in a serious crisis following the move by some lawmakers to impeach Speaker Fubara.Meanwhile, Fubara presented the 2024 budget estimates to a group led by Deputy Speaker Edison Ehie at the Government House, which occurred at the same time that the demolition of the state assembly complex began. The Ehie group had been recognized by the court as the legitimate Speaker of the House. The budget presentation was held at a hall in the Government House, likely because of the ongoing ‘renovation’ work at the state assembly complex.
